Today I’m wearing the palm tree earrings that James bought for me in Santa Barbara on my first-ever trip to California after my divorce was finalized.
\nIn the gift shop, one earring had a piece of mother-of-pearl missing from its palm branch. It was broken. But that only made me want it more. Something bad had happened to that earring, but it was still shining.
\nI figured, nobody else is going to come along to this gift shop by the beach and love that earring more than I do. So I told James that was the one I wanted. He didn’t ask any questions.
